About Us
Chef Douglas Weerts
The Rivers’ Chef, Douglas Weerts, graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in New York. In his 26-year career, he has done everything from Upscale Restaurants and 1,000 person banquets to catering movie sets. He has come to Marshfield to bring his culinary talents to a small, family-oriented community. His passion for using local ingredients and house-made sauces is made easier by the abundance of local producers of meat, dairy, and produce.
Our History
In 1871, Frank and Louis Rivers built the first permanent structure in Marshfield which became the first Hotel, Saloon, and Store. Apart from being hoteliers, the Rivers brothers were also involved in the lumber industry, and Louis Rivers served as the first Postmaster of Marshfield. The Rivers story is not the only story we try to tell with our restaurant. All of our pictures on the walls are photographs of buildings or individuals of historical significance from the area. We will continue to tell the vibrant history of Marshfield through our ambience and our food.
Our Future
The Rivers believed in Marshfield and so do we. By partnering with our local vendors such as Hewitt’s Meat, Nasonville Dairy, and Coldsnap Aquaponics we promote and support our community. It also allows us to offer unequaled fresh products and flavors specific to our area. We strive to sustain our strong agricultural heritage through offering locally sourced ingredients.
